Dr. Anette Loeffler
Anette Loeffler qualified from Munich University, Germany, in 1994 and spent six years in mixed practice in Cumbria. She completed a three-year dermatology residency at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 2004 where she is currently undertaking a PhD on staphylococcal diseases. She holds the RCVS diploma in Veterinary Dermatology and is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology.
As part of her research into staphylococcal skin diseases in companion animals and in collaboration with the RVC Epidemiology Group, she started a case-control study on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection in dogs and cats in September 2005. This two-year study is funded by DEFRA and it investigates risk factors associated with MRSA infection in animals. Following the recent increase of reports on MRSA infections in pets, MRSA research at the RVC has focused on early identification, screening, monitoring and prevention of this organism (jac.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/56/4/692). Anette‘s interests further include antimicrobial resistance in staphylococci and staphylococcal carriage on skin and mucosae of healthy animals.
